Description

Writing complete sentences and descriptive paragraphs has been challenging for my elementary students. They need explicit instruction with examples and opportunities to practice. This resource will guide you through teaching how to write sentences: the parts of a sentence, the types of complete sentences, and the difference between sentences, fragments, and run-ons. This resource will guide you in teaching how to write complete sentences using photos that are engaging and pique student interest. This is the same for teaching paragraph writing. This resource uses photos to model paragraph writing. Students will highlight the parts of a paragraph and write paragraphs using sensory and descriptive details. Students will also write paragraphs about a topic by answering questions. There are opportunities for students to write about a photo and topic of their choice too.

The presentation (link to Google Slides) guides your teaching and allows opportunities for you and your students to have good conversations and interact with the content together. You can assign specific slides for your students to do independently. This is the digital piece of this resource. Use the presentation to teach from. You can print the slides as well.

The printable piece of this resource is within the PDF. This piece is very similar to the presentation but is printer-friendly. While some color photos are in the printable PDF, there are printer-friendly black-and-white photos too. This resource also includes worksheets to allow students to practice and apply what they have learned about sentences and paragraphs using paper and pencil instead of a device. As a teacher, I like having both options, digital and printable. You choose what is best for you and your students.
